Ramayana’s Reported ₹250 Cr Deal Sparks Trade Buzz

Ramayana is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years. Featuring an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh, the mythological epic is being produced on a massive scale and will be released in two parts.
The first installment is scheduled to hit theatres on November 6, 2026, during the Diwali festive season. Ever since its announcement, the film has generated enormous buzz, although the teaser released earlier received a mixed response from audiences.
Meanwhile, industry reports suggest that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has secured the theatrical distribution rights for the film’s first part in India. According to the buzz, the makers recently showcased selected footage of the film to several production houses and corporate distributors before initiating the bidding process.
Reports claim that the bidding initially began at around ₹500 crore, but Dharma Productions eventually acquired the rights for approximately ₹250 crore. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the deal value from the makers or the production house.
The reported figure has become a major topic of discussion in trade circles, particularly because producer Namit Malhotra has previously stated that the two-part Ramayana is being mounted on a budget of around ₹4,000 crore. If the reported distribution price is accurate, some industry observers believe it appears modest for a project of such scale and ambition.
At the same time, others feel Dharma Productions may have secured a highly valuable deal, considering the film’s star-studded cast, grand production values and long-term box office potential. Many believe the distributor could generate significant returns if audience response turns positive after release.
Despite the ongoing speculation surrounding its pre-release business, expectations for Ramayana remain exceptionally high. With a powerful cast, cutting-edge visual effects and one of the biggest budgets in Indian cinema, the film is expected to open strongly at the box office. Whether the reported distribution deal reflects the film’s true market potential will become clearer as its release draws closer.
