Ram Charan–Sukumar RC 17: Rural or Urban Twist?

June 22, 2026

After the box office run of Ram Charan’s latest film Peddi, a fresh discussion has started in the industry. There is a growing question among audiences and analysts about whether rural, mass-oriented stories with village backdrops are becoming repetitive and overused.

Director Sukumar, who has already fully embraced a rustic world with the Pushpa franchise, is now teaming up with Ram Charan for the upcoming RC 17. This has sparked curiosity over whether the film will continue in the same rural tone or shift to a completely new setting.

Earlier reports and leaks suggested that the project could feature a stylish urban backdrop with large-scale action sequences shot in international locations like Abu Dhabi. Rumours also hinted that Ram Charan might play a powerful investigative officer in a patriotic action thriller. While none of these details have been officially confirmed, they had created strong buzz at the time.

Sukumar, however, is known for not sticking to a single formula. Even though One Nenokkadine didn’t perform strongly at the box office, he later bounced back with Nannaku Prematho, showcasing his flair for stylish storytelling. Given this track record, many believe he may once again move away from the rustic template and explore a more urban, brain-driven narrative on a pan-India scale.

Ram Charan’s recent film choices also support this possible shift. After intense and de-glam roles in films like Game Changer and Peddi, fans are expecting a refreshing change. A stylish investigative avatar in a Sukumar-directed action thriller could offer a new screen experience for audiences.

A past remark by Rajamouli also added to the hype, where he mentioned Sukumar had described a powerful opening sequence with strong emotional impact right from the first frame. This suggests that the film may combine both high-octane action and Sukumar’s signature emotional depth.

As industry trends continue to evolve, filmmakers are also adapting to audience expectations. While earlier reports about an international backdrop may not be fully accurate, there is strong belief that the project will move beyond the routine rural format.

With Sukumar’s ability to anticipate audience taste and Ram Charan’s star power, RC 17 is expected to bring a fresh cinematic experience and potentially set a new benchmark at the box office.
