Anurag Kashyap Raises Concern Over Screen Allocation for Indian Films

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has raised concerns over what he sees as an imbalance in theatre allocations between Indian films and a leading Hollywood release. He pointed out that despite multiple new Indian releases currently competing at the box office, domestic films are not being given adequate screen space or favorable show timings.

Taking to social media, Kashyap said he understands the audience excitement around the Hollywood film Obsession, which has been drawing strong crowds and securing multiple daily shows. However, he argued that several Indian films are struggling to find sufficient screens, limiting their reach to audiences.

He cited titles such as Bandar, Main Vaapas Aaunga, Sing Geetham, and Governor, noting that in some cities these films are being allotted only one or two shows per day, while Obsession continues to dominate prime-time screenings throughout the day.

Kashyap questioned how the Indian film industry can grow if local productions are not given equal opportunity in theatres. He emphasized that audiences should have better access to homegrown cinema on the big screen.

His own film Bandar, which has received positive reviews from critics and viewers, is also reportedly facing limited theatrical availability despite appreciation for its storyline about an actor-musician caught in a legal controversy.

Meanwhile, Obsession, a horror film, continues its strong box office run with high occupancy and consistent collections since release.
