Politics in Tamil Nadu are witnessing a dramatic phase following the rise of Vijay as the new Chief Minister. Within just a week of taking charge, Vijay has already started making key administrative decisions, keeping the political atmosphere highly active across the state.
Amid these developments, fresh political speculation is now surrounding former Chief Minister M. K. Stalin. According to reports from national media circles, Stalin is reportedly considering a comeback to the Assembly through the upcoming Trichy East by-election.
The Trichy East seat was originally won by Vijay during the 2026 Assembly elections. However, since he also secured victory from the Perambur constituency, he later chose to vacate the Trichy East seat, making a bypoll inevitable.
Political observers believe the by-election could turn into a major prestige battle between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK. Reports suggest that a resolution has already been passed during the Trichy South District Executive Committee meeting, urging Stalin to contest the by-election and re-establish his political strength.
At the same time, the move is being viewed as a high-risk gamble. Trichy East is currently considered a stronghold for Vijay and TVK, especially after the recent election momentum. If Stalin contests and loses again, it could become a major setback in his political career and give further psychological advantage to Vijay’s camp.
However, if he decides to enter the contest and performs strongly, it could send a powerful message that he remains a key force in Tamil Nadu politics despite recent electoral setbacks.
As of now, there is no official confirmation from Stalin or the DMK leadership regarding his candidature. The political landscape is expected to become even more intense once the by-election schedule is officially announced.
