Music director Thaman is all set to surprise audiences with his acting comeback in the upcoming Tamil romantic drama Idhayam Murali, which is being dubbed into Telugu as Hrudhayam Murali. Directed by Aakash Baskaran, the film stars Atharvaa, Kayadu Lohar, and Preity Mukundan in the lead roles and is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 10, 2026.
While the film’s youthful love story has generated interest, one of its biggest talking points is Thaman’s on-screen presence. The recently released trailers reveal him in a significant supporting role as the hero’s close friend, a doctor who plays an important part in the narrative. His character appears to have substantial screen time and is expected to contribute meaningfully to the emotional arc of the story.
Many may not remember that Thaman began his journey in cinema as an actor before becoming one of South India’s leading music composers. He made his acting debut in Shankar’s Boys, where he portrayed one of the members of the music band. Although he later shifted his focus entirely to composing, Hrudhayam Murali marks a notable return to acting after a long gap.
In previous interviews, Thaman has expressed his willingness to accept acting offers if the roles are interesting and well-written. Judging by the trailer, Hrudhayam Murali seems to provide him with exactly such an opportunity. If his performance resonates with audiences, this film could open the door for more acting assignments alongside his successful career as a music director.
Featuring a talented ensemble that includes Kayadu Lohar, Preity Mukundan, and popular digital creator Niharika NM, Hrudhayam Murali has built decent pre-release buzz. With its simultaneous Telugu release, the film also has the potential to introduce Thaman’s acting abilities to a wider audience, giving him a fresh identity beyond his celebrated musical career.
