Trump’s Remarks on Giorgia Meloni Spark Diplomatic Row

Donald Trump has once again drawn global attention for his controversial remarks, often known for sparking public debate with his unpredictable statements.

Recently, Trump reportedly told an Italian news channel that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a close ally of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was eager to take a photograph with him at the G7 Summit. He further claimed he agreed only because he “felt sorry for her,” a remark that quickly triggered criticism for its tone and intent.

However, the statement has since been strongly disputed, with reports suggesting it was a false claim. The controversy escalated further when Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reportedly cancelled a planned visit to the United States on June 21–22, calling the remarks “unacceptable and shameful.”

Reacting to the situation, Giorgia Meloni firmly denied the comments attributed to her, stating that the claims were entirely fabricated and expressing shock over the statements made by the former US President. She emphasized that Italy does not seek validation from any external power, reinforcing her country’s independent stance.

The incident has added fresh strain to diplomatic discussions, with critics arguing that such remarks about a female head of government were inappropriate and have led to unnecessary political friction between allies.
