Trump’s Verbal Slips Draw Attention at NATO Summit

US President Donald Trump found himself in the spotlight after making a series of verbal slips during a high-profile press interaction in Ankara on the sidelines of the NATO summit, where he appeared alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

While addressing reporters on escalating tensions with Iran and the status of the US-Iran ceasefire, Trump mistakenly referred to Iran as the “Islamic Republic of Japan” while describing an alleged missile attack on a US naval vessel. Moments later, he turned toward Zelenskyy and asked reporters, “Do you have a question for President Putin?”, apparently confusing the Ukrainian leader with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The remarks quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion and criticism online.

During the briefing, Trump defended recent US military operations against Iran and declared that the temporary ceasefire with Tehran was effectively over. “For me, I think it’s over,” he said, while adding that US officials could still continue diplomatic talks if they chose to do so. He also warned that Washington was prepared to launch further military action if required.

The comments came amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following reports of attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and retaliatory strikes involving US and Iranian interests. The escalating conflict has also raised concerns over global energy markets, contributing to renewed volatility in oil prices.

Trump’s verbal missteps overshadowed much of the press conference, with clips circulating widely across social media platforms. Some critics questioned the repeated gaffes, while others renewed online discussions about the 25th Amendment, although there has been no indication of any formal political move to invoke the constitutional provision.

The appearance also came shortly after the White House released a medical assessment stating that Trump remains in excellent health and is fully capable of carrying out the responsibilities of the presidency. Despite that assurance, the latest remarks have once again placed the President’s public appearances under intense scrutiny.
