Udhayanidhi Stalin Reiterates Sanathana Remark, Sparks Political Debate Again

Udhayanidhi Stalin has once again sparked political debate by reiterating his earlier remarks on Sanathana Dharma. In his maiden address in the Tamil Nadu Assembly as the Leader of Opposition, he stated that Sanathana Dharma, which he believes divides people, must be eradicated.

His earlier comments on the same subject had already triggered widespread criticism across the country, making it a highly sensitive political issue. While it is unclear how that controversy influenced electoral outcomes, his continued strong stance has once again brought the topic back into focus.

During the Assembly proceedings, however, there was no visible uproar or strong reaction to his statement. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, who was present in the House, did not react to the remarks and maintained composure throughout the session. Interestingly, the issue did not find mention in his address either, and he later greeted the Leader of Opposition as proceedings concluded.

Notably, none of the 234 members in the Assembly publicly objected to Udhayanidhi’s remarks during the session. Even the lone BJP representative appeared silent, with no recorded protest or intervention.

This silence has led to discussions in political circles, with some viewing it as a reflection of the current Assembly dynamics and the broader political climate in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK leadership has consistently maintained that their criticism of Sanathana Dharma is directed at perceived caste-based discrimination and social inequality. However, critics argue that repeatedly using the term itself instead of directly addressing caste structures only intensifies the controversy.

As debates continue, there is growing anticipation that Chief Minister Vijay may eventually address the issue more directly, as observers feel a balanced response could help prevent recurring political flashpoints and shape a clearer narrative going forward.
