The US–Iran tensions continue to evolve as diplomatic signals and political statements create uncertainty around a potential peace agreement.
Donald Trump recently dismissed Iran’s earlier peace proposal as “garbage,” even as discussions around a revised deal continue behind the scenes. According to his remarks, a planned military strike on Iran was paused after Tehran reportedly sent a new peace proposal to Washington, raising hopes of a possible breakthrough.
Trump also stated that there is now a “very good chance” of reaching an agreement aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear programme. Last week, he had issued a strict ultimatum warning Iran to submit a credible peace plan or face stronger action.
Reports suggest that Iran’s revised proposal includes multiple demands such as ending hostilities across regions including Lebanon, withdrawal of US forces from areas near Iran, lifting of sanctions, release of frozen Iranian funds, reparations for past damages, and ending maritime restrictions.
However, there appears to be no clear confirmation from the US side. While some Iranian-linked sources claim that Washington may be softening certain positions—such as allowing limited peaceful nuclear activity under international supervision—US officials have denied agreeing to key terms, including any waiver of oil sanctions.
Diplomatic backchannels also appear active. According to reports, leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE have urged caution and encouraged continued negotiations, suggesting that a potential deal could still be reached without military escalation.
Iran has reportedly also engaged in indirect communication channels, with some sources claiming proposals were shared through intermediaries. However, both sides are said to be frequently shifting their positions, making the outcome highly uncertain.
Trump further emphasized that he would prefer a diplomatic solution, stating he would be “very happy” if an agreement could be reached without military action. For now, the situation remains fluid, with both diplomatic optimism and strategic disagreements continuing to shape the US–Iran dialogue.
