Thousands of people trying to apply for a US visa, pay fees, schedule interviews, or even simply log in are currently facing major disruptions as the official visa processing portal continues to experience technical issues.
The website, USTravelDocs.com, one of the primary visa scheduling platforms used by the US State Department, has been facing persistent outages for weeks, with problems reportedly worsening over time. Immigration firm Berry Appleman & Leiden has highlighted the severity of the situation, stating that the disruptions are “preventing visa applicants globally from applying for visas, paying processing fees, and scheduling visa interviews at US embassies and consulates abroad.”
The platform itself has acknowledged the issue, displaying a notice across country-specific portals: “The scheduling portal is currently experiencing technical issues, and applicants may encounter errors with the system during this time. We apologise for this inconvenience as we work to resolve the problem.”
Users across the globe have reported a wide range of issues, including long virtual queue delays, payment failures, login errors, and in many cases, complete inaccessibility to the site.
For Indian applicants, USTravelDocs.com is effectively the primary gateway for US visa processing. With limited or no alternatives, the disruption is affecting all major visa categories including tourist visas (B1/B2), student visas (F-1), work visas such as H-1B, exchange visitor visas, and family-based immigration applications.
The platform is also widely used in several other countries including Australia, Japan, Germany, and Switzerland, making this a global issue, though its impact is particularly severe in high-demand regions like India.
The technical problems are not limited to non-immigrant visas. Applicants for immigrant visas, including green cards processed outside the United States, are also facing disruptions. The State Department’s Consular Electronic Application Centre, used for submitting Form DS-260, has reportedly been experiencing similar system failures. Earlier notices advised users encountering issues to wait at least 24 hours before retrying.
The outage comes at a critical time when demand for US visas is surging ahead of the summer travel season and major global events like the FIFA World Cup 2026. While the US State Department has acknowledged the technical difficulties and said efforts are underway to resolve them, applicants facing long delays and tight travel schedules remain under significant stress.
