Ram Charan’s ‘Peddi’ Pre-Release Buzz Hits ₹165 Cr, Nizam Pricing Hurdle Remains

Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi is currently one of the hottest topics in the trade circles. After a relatively quiet four-month spell at the box office, exhibitors and distributors are pinning strong hopes on the film to bring audiences back to theatres in large numbers.

Reportedly, the pre-release business of Peddi has touched a massive ₹165 crore, reflecting the strong buzz surrounding the project. The makers are said to be planning premiere ticket pricing at around ₹600, along with a ₹100 hike for the first two weeks over existing rates.

While it is relatively easier to obtain the necessary government order (GO) in Andhra Pradesh, the situation in the Nizam region remains uncertain. Legal complications in Telangana have created hurdles in securing approvals, especially for ticket hikes and premiere permissions. However, due to the court vacation period, the makers are reportedly confident of navigating the approval process, similar to earlier instances like Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu.

In Nizam, Mythri Distributors have struck a structured deal with the producer. As per the agreement, the distributor will invest ₹63 crore, but the recoverable amount will depend on permissions related to premieres and ticket hikes.

If all approvals are granted smoothly, the refundable risk is expected to be minimal at around ₹3 crore. However, partial or restricted permissions could increase the refundable amount to ₹5 crore. In the worst-case scenario, if both premieres and ticket hikes are denied, the potential loss could go up to ₹15 crore in share.

Despite these variables, Peddi continues to enjoy strong pre-release hype, ensuring a solid opening. However, industry experts feel that positive word of mouth and a strong long run will be crucial for maximizing returns, especially if pricing flexibility is not granted in the Nizam region.

This is also why distributor Mythri Naveen has reportedly emphasized in chamber meetings the need for a unified GO from both Telugu states, allowing flexible ticket pricing ranging from ₹100 to ₹1000, giving producers and distributors the freedom to set prices based on demand.
