Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who has built a strong fan base in Telugu cinema through a variety of impactful roles, has found herself at the center of a fresh controversy.
During a recent press meet for the upcoming Telugu film Police Complaint, the film’s director publicly alleged that Varalaxmi had not fully cooperated with the team during the production and promotional phases.
According to the director, the actress agreed to a remuneration package of ₹75 lakh, along with daily staff expenses. He further claimed that she had committed to participating in promotional activities but reportedly spent only a limited amount of time on promotional events. The director also alleged that dubbing work was delayed because of scheduling issues involving the actress.
This is not the first time Varalaxmi’s name has surfaced in a controversy. Earlier, during the promotions of her directorial venture S. Saraswathi, writer Sai Madhav Burra reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over changes made to the story, leading to a public exchange. At the time, Varalaxmi addressed the issue and attempted to prevent it from escalating further.
While the latest allegations remain one-sided for now, the controversy has generated discussion within industry circles. Given her strong reputation among Telugu audiences, many feel that a clarification from the actress could help address the concerns and put an end to the speculation.
For performers with an established image, public perception often plays a crucial role. Industry observers believe that resolving such controversies quickly and transparently is important to maintaining goodwill among audiences and filmmakers alike.
