One of the biggest movies releasing this Sankranti season is Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Varisu’. This family action entertainer is produced by Dil Raju and directed by Vamsi Paidipally. It is hitting the screens on 11th January and there were high expectations on this movie because of the stellar cast and hit songs. Knowing the style of Paidipally, the Telugu audience were a bit apprehensive about this movie.
The theatrical trailer dropped on Wednesday and Vijay dominated it completely. While his presence and technical standards were good, the story and scenes reminded people of a lot of Telugu movies. The trailer instantly became troll material. Numerous memes were made about this trailer and people made fun of it heavily.
The expectations over this project came out after the trailer got released. People felt disappointed to see Paidipally taking a lot of Telugu movies and churning out a regular commercial family entertainer. Many say that he failed to make full use of the huge opportunity he was given. The story of a family getting separated and a member of them taking things into his own hands and reuniting them has been watched a lot of times before.
The scenes as well as dialogues also looked like a copy of Telugu films. A lot of shot reminds people of movies like ‘Srimanthudu’ and ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ while the basic story is similar to ‘Gautham SSC’. The team of ‘Varisu’ seems to have taken an old story and made it on a big canvas. Heroes like Mahesh Babu, Charan, Pawan Kalyan and many others did movies on similar storylines.
