Thalapathy Vijay recently created history by winning the Tamil Nadu assembly election, marking a rare moment in Indian politics where a cinema star has secured power in his very first electoral attempt.
However, the actor-turned-politician has now drawn attention for missing a significant political opportunity in neighbouring Kerala. The United Democratic Front, led by the Congress, formed the government under Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, and the swearing-in ceremony took place recently.
Many had expected Vijay, now a key political figure in Tamil Nadu, to attend the event given his alliance ties and strong popularity in Kerala. His presence was also seen as an opportunity to strengthen his political influence in the neighbouring state, where his films enjoy massive fan following.
However, Vijay reportedly chose to focus on administrative responsibilities in the Tamil Nadu Secretariat instead of attending the Kerala ceremony. Sources suggest this reflects his commitment to his new role as a full-time administrator in his early days in office.
At the same time, political observers note that his absence may have been a missed opportunity to boost the expansion of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in Kerala, where he enjoys strong public support.
Analysts believe that Vijay’s appearance at the Kerala event could have created a major public impact, further strengthening his political reach across state borders. Nonetheless, the actor-politician appears to be prioritizing governance duties over ceremonial appearances at this stage of his career.
