Chandrababu Naidu did the unthinkable by going over to Vangaveeti Radhakrishna’s residence. The idea is to make sure that Radhakrishna does not join the YSRCP. More importantly,Chandrababu Naidu feels that Kapu community would turn to the TDP if Radhakrishna in in the party.
But Chandrababu Naidu’s act could actually be counterproductive, say those in the know. Sources say that this has effectively killed all the support that Radhakrishna had within the YSRCP. The YSRCP was hoping that Radha would join the party. But now that there are indications that Radha could stay back in the TDP, the fans are disappointed.
But, Chandrababu’s calculations that Radhakrishna can unite the Kapus across the state in favour of the TDP could end up being totally wrong. No doubt Radhakrishna is a charismatic leader and his late father’s aura will help him in a great measure. But, he does not have a pan-AP appeal. There are several Kapu icons. For instance, Mudragada has considerable charisma and appeal in the twin Godavari districts. Ditto with Ganta Srinivasa Rao in North Andhra.
The biggest problem is that there is complete lack of unity among the Kapu community. Despite the sheer numbers, the community is deeply divided. There is no one common leader for the community. Given this situation, will Chandrababu’s gamble pay off.
