Will VVS Lakshman join BJP, contest from Hyderabad city?

Is this star batsman getting ready to play another innings? You’ve seen Siddhu, Azhar and Gautam Gambhir playing political innings. Now, if all goes well, our very own VVS Lakshman too is all set to play a political innings. The buzz is that ace batsman VVS Lakshman is all set to join the BJP and is getting ready to contest the next assembly election.

The BJP has its own share of cricketers who contested and won the elections. For instance, former Indian opener Chetan Chouhan and ace batsman Kirti Azad had won as MPs and served the BJP with aplomb. Gautam Gambhir is still an MP. Siddhu, who began his career with the BJP has now joined the Congress. Azharuddin has been a two-time MP from UP when the Congress was in power. Now, if sources are to be believed, Lakshman too is likely to join politics and don saffron scarf.

Sources say that he could contest from one of the constituencies in the GHMC area. However, it is not known which constituency it would be. Sources said that Amit Shah has given his nod for Lakshman. Lakshman’s family has links to the Sangh Parivar and are known to be devotees of Satya Saibaba. Sources say he is in touch with the BJP leaders.

As of now, Lakshman is busy with umpiring in the World Cup cricket matches. He is also the mentor of the Sun Risers of Hyderabad. It remains to be seen if he would be like Saurav Ganguly, who was tantalisingly close to joining the BJP but never did, or like Gautam Gambhir, who took the plunge and is doing a good job of it.
