Will Yediyurappa resign as CM on July 26?

The political circles in Karnataka are agog with the buzz that Yediyurappa is likely to resign from the post of Karnataka Chief Minister’s post soon. If sources are to be believed, he is likely to resign on July 26, a day after he enters 80 years of age. July 25 is his birthday.

Yediyurappa met Prime Minister Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh and party national president JP Nadda on Friday afternoon. Later, he met Amit Shah in the evening. It was during this time that the issue of his resignation cropped up. Yediyurappa is facing severe dissidence from the party MLAs is said to have told them of his readiness to resign. He is also suffering from several age-related issues. As it is, he is hard of hearing and slow in reflexes. Hence the party too wants him to retire.

Today, Yediyurappa, Ashok Gehlot, Amarinder and Pinarayi Vijayan are among the oldest chief ministers in the country. The BJP’s policy of appointing young leaders as CMs was given an exception only in case of Yediyurappa. Sources say that Parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and mines minister Murugesh Nirani are the strong contenders for the CM’s post. Sources say that Yediyurappa’s son Vijayendra would be given a prominent position as a bargain for Yediyurappa’s stepping down.
