With nearly three years remaining for the next Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for 2029, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly working on an early political roadmap aimed at reviving the YSR Congress Party after its defeat in the 2024 elections.
According to party sources, Jagan has already initiated a detailed strategic review to analyse the factors that led to the party’s electoral setback. An independent survey has also been commissioned to assess ground-level feedback and identify key weaknesses.
Preliminary findings reportedly point to several issues, including leadership overconfidence, weakened grassroots connect, ineffective campaign management, frequent candidate changes, and dissatisfaction with candidate selection in certain constituencies.
Taking these inputs seriously, Jagan is said to be planning early candidate selection for crucial constituencies before launching a full-scale political outreach programme or padayatra. The idea, sources say, is to deploy selected leaders early in the field to rebuild cadre strength and reconnect with voters.
The party leadership is also focusing on constituencies considered strongholds of the ruling Telugu Desam Party-led alliance. Multiple survey agencies have been engaged to study constituency-wise political trends, with emphasis on cadre feedback and voter sentiment.
One key constituency under close watch is Mangalagiri, represented by TDP general secretary and IT minister Nara Lokesh, who is seen as a potential future leadership face within the Telugu Desam Party. Reports suggest that if YSRCP manages a victory in such high-profile constituencies, it could significantly alter political momentum in the state.
As part of its strategy, YSRCP is reportedly considering fielding a strong and surprise candidate against Lokesh, though the name is being kept confidential for now. Sources indicate that the candidate is a close associate of the party and has links to a prominent Telugu film personality.
Meanwhile, the party is also expanding its survey activity across the Amaravati region, aiming to strengthen organisational structure at the constituency level. Political strategists believe the current ruling alliance may continue into 2029, prompting the need for long-term planning.
Under the proposed strategy, potential candidates may first be appointed as constituency coordinators to rebuild grassroots networks before the elections. The final decisions, however, are expected only after comprehensive survey reports are reviewed.
