Director Buchi Babu Sana has candidly admitted that the trailer of Ram Charan’s Peddi was not edited effectively and may have created a negative impression about the film even before its release.

Speaking in a post-release interview, the filmmaker said the promotional cut tried to pack too many elements into a single sequence, which ultimately sent the wrong message to audiences.

“Too many things were packed into one scene in the trailer. It became overwhelming. We cannot afford such mistakes with big-budget films,” Buchi Babu said.

The trailer had faced severe criticism online, with several viewers taking issue with the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character and certain romantic sequences. Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu revealed that the negativity surrounding the film had become a concern for the team, adding that even some well-wishers had begun to believe that the film was headed for failure.

However, the narrative reportedly changed after Peddi hit theatres. According to Buchi Babu, audience response started improving from the second day, with family audiences gradually embracing the sports drama.

The director also credited social media creators and influencers for playing a key role in the film’s recovery. He said many content creators with large followings shared their personal reviews, reels and clips, helping generate strong word of mouth.

Despite its box-office turnaround, Peddi later found itself at the centre of another controversy over scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyyamma. Some viewers accused the film of oversexualising the character and depicting non-consensual physical contact as romance.

Addressing the criticism, Buchi Babu maintained that there was never any intention to disrespect or objectify women. He said the team had taken the feedback seriously and acknowledged the concerns raised by audiences.

In spite of the trailer misfire and the post-release controversies, Peddi eventually found its footing at the box office. The rural sports action drama, set in Andhra Pradesh and headlined by Ram Charan, was reportedly mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 350 crore.
