YSR Congress Party Continues Push For MAVIGUN Capital Proposal

The YSR Congress Party appears determined to continue promoting the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur (MAVIGUN) capital concept proposed by party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy until the next Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Even as the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu accelerates development works in Amaravati, YSRCP leaders continue to aggressively push the MAVIGUN proposal. Alongside promoting decentralised development, the party is also alleging large-scale corruption in the ongoing Amaravati capital construction works.

Senior YSRCP leader and former minister Perni Nani described the Amaravati project as a symbol of “organized corruption and systematic discrimination.” He alleged that the capital project would never be completed as long as TDP leaders continued to benefit financially from it.

According to Perni Nani, the MAVIGUN proposal would better serve both the people and the long-term interests of the state compared to the existing capital model. He argued that instead of affecting the livelihoods of lakhs of people, the government should focus on developing a decentralised capital region under the MAVIGUN concept.

The former minister also accused the government of misleading farmers in the name of land pooling and capital construction while favouring individuals allegedly close to Chandrababu Naidu. He questioned the allotment and subsequent purchase of land in the E6 road area, alleging that Naidu was constructing a massive residence on nearly five acres acquired from a local family.

Perni Nani sought clarification on how plots near major government institutions such as the Secretariat, Assembly and High Court were allotted and later purchased, while ordinary farmers were allegedly denied similar opportunities. He further claimed that green belt zones were being declared around Naidu’s residence to restrict nearby habitation.

The YSRCP leader alleged that several farmers who surrendered land during the first phase of land pooling were still waiting for their promised plots, while lands were allegedly being distributed to political supporters. He also warned that construction works in Amaravati could once again face disruptions if heavy rains in June lead to water stagnation in the region.

Demanding clarity from the government, Perni Nani questioned when farmers would finally receive their allocated plots. He further alleged that lands belonging to farmers unwilling to participate in the second phase of land pooling were being placed under prohibited lists.

Reiterating the YSRCP’s opposition to the second phase of land pooling, Perni Nani warned that if lands were forcibly acquired by the current government, a future YSRCP administration would return those lands to the affected farmers.
