Dhurandhar 2 OTT Delay in India Sparks Piracy Concerns

The OTT release of “Dhurandhar: The Revenge”, the second part of the blockbuster Dhurandhar franchise, has officially arrived on Netflix, but only for international audiences. Interestingly, the film has not been made available for viewers in India, as streaming rights for the region remain with JioCinema/JioHotstar.

This decision has led to a major content gap, as Indian audiences are left waiting for the official domestic OTT release. Reports suggest that the makers and streaming partner believed the film would still enjoy a strong theatrical run in India for a few more weeks, especially before the arrival of major Hindi and Telugu releases.

However, this delay appears to have backfired. With the Netflix version already accessible globally, high-quality 4K prints have reportedly been leaked and are circulating across piracy websites. The lack of an official Indian streaming date has only worsened the situation, creating a window for illegal downloads to spread rapidly online.

Sources indicate that the film’s availability gap has significantly impacted its digital control strategy. Even though anti-piracy measures are being implemented, insiders suggest that preventing the spread at this stage is proving extremely difficult, with copies already widely shared on social media and torrent platforms.

Another concern being discussed is the viewing experience on ad-supported OTT plans, where interruptions could reduce audience satisfaction. While the official platform may still roll out the film in India soon, the delay has already given piracy an advantage, potentially affecting long-term digital performance.

Industry talk suggests that the makers are now working on releasing the JioHotstar version in India at the earliest to regain control of the situation and curb further damage.
