Suriya’s Karuppu Faces Release Day Shock

Just hours before the release of the much-awaited action thriller Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead role, the makers announced that the special 9 a.m. morning shows scheduled for Thursday have been cancelled.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had granted permission for one additional early morning show on May 14 and 15. However, due to unresolved financial issues surrounding the film, the planned 9 a.m. screenings for Thursday could not go ahead as scheduled.
Production house Dream Warrior Pictures shared the update on social media by reposting producer S. R. Prabhu’s statement. The announcement read, “Due to unavoidable reasons, 9am shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone!”
According to industry sources, the team was working through the night to resolve the financial hurdles and ensure a smooth release. Despite last-minute negotiations continuing until early Thursday morning, the issues reportedly remained unsettled, forcing the cancellation of the special morning shows.
The film has already generated massive buzz among fans and movie lovers. Excitement around the project increased significantly after the teaser was unveiled on Suriya’s birthday last year.
The teaser introduced the intense world of Karuppu through references to a fierce deity believed to deliver instant justice. Soon after, viewers were introduced to Suriya’s character, lawyer Saravanan, who is also referred to as Karuppu.
Packed with action sequences, punch dialogues, and commercial elements, the teaser hinted at a full-fledged mass entertainer. One of Suriya’s powerful lines from the teaser quickly became popular among fans.
Directed by R. J. Balaji, the film features Trisha Krishnan as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika along with Tamil actors Yogi Babu and Natty in important roles.
The film’s music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while cinematography is handled by G. K. Vishnu, known for his work in films like Bigil, Jawan, and Mersal. Editing is by R. Kalaivanan, with action choreography by Vikram Mor and production design by Arun Venjaramoodu.
