Air India Express, the low-cost arm of Air India Group, is set to begin international flights to Abu Dhabi from Navi Mumbai International Airport on July 15, with bookings for the inaugural service expected to open on Saturday, according to PTI, citing a source.

The launch of international passenger services is likely to align with the start of freight operations from the airport on the same date. Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL) CEO BVJK Sharma had earlier said that the airport is preparing to commence both passenger and cargo international operations from July 15.

The Adani Group-owned airport, in which the Maharashtra government’s planning agency CIDCO holds a 26% stake, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year. It began domestic commercial flights on December 25, 2025.

Sharma had indicated that while freighter operations will begin first, passenger international services are also expected to follow closely. He added that freight traffic is projected to scale up to around 18 weekly flights initially.

Earlier plans to launch international operations with the summer schedule were delayed due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

At present, the airport handles around 20,000 passengers daily with approximately 150 aircraft movements. Officials expect this to rise significantly, with daily footfall projected to reach 50,000 and up to 380 air traffic movements by the end of the year, including arrivals and departures.
