For many people, relocating abroad is often associated with better salaries or career growth. However, for one Indian couple, the decision to move to Thailand was driven by a much simpler reason — a better quality of everyday life.
Shreya and Amit, an Indian couple who recently shared their experience on social media, said their move was not about leaving India behind, but about finding a more balanced and comfortable lifestyle.
In an Instagram post, they addressed a common question: “Why did you move to Thailand?”
“India will always be home. But after spending time in Thailand, we realized our day-to-day quality of life felt… better,” they wrote.
According to the couple, rental costs in Thailand are comparable to those in many Tier 1 Indian cities. However, they feel the difference lies in the overall lifestyle and daily experience. They added that life in Thailand comes with a slower, more relaxed pace, and while some conveniences available in India may be missing, the trade-off feels worthwhile.
Shreya highlighted the most noticeable change in social behaviour and daily interactions.
“People are kind. Strangers smile, hold doors open, respect personal space. Most interactions feel less transactional and more human. As a woman, walking home late at night doesn’t feel like a risk assessment exercise. I don’t find myself constantly staying hyper-vigilant,” she wrote.
The couple also said the biggest benefit of their move has been having more time.
“It doesn’t feel like life is slipping away in traffic. Less time commuting, more time walking, more time working from cafés, and more time together,” they shared. Their post also included a video showcasing glimpses of their life in Thailand, including café visits and neighbourhood walks.
Their post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions online.
Many users agreed with their perspective, saying Thailand offers a high quality of life and is easy to settle into. Others pointed out that every country has its own pros and cons, and experiences can vary based on individual circumstances.
