The announcement of Jr NTR and Trivikram Srinivas’ ambitious pan-India film has generated massive excitement among fans. Along with the hype, however, one interesting question is being widely discussed—can music director Anirudh Ravichander deliver for a mythological action drama?
Known for chartbuster albums in commercial entertainers, romantic dramas, and action films, Anirudh is stepping into relatively unfamiliar territory. This marks the first time he will be composing music for a film rooted in mythology and devotional themes, making it one of the biggest creative challenges of his career.
According to reports, Trivikram’s story blends elements of Hindu mythology, including Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Kartikeya, and ancient spiritual traditions, into a socio-fantasy narrative. Naturally, the soundtrack is expected to feature not only commercial songs but also devotional compositions and powerful background themes that reflect the film’s mythological essence.
The expectations are immense because Telugu cinema has witnessed several iconic devotional soundtracks over the years. S. Thaman impressed audiences with the spiritual score of Akhanda, Ilaiyaraaja delivered timeless classics in films such as Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mahathyam, and M.M. Keeravaani created unforgettable devotional music with Annamayya. Industry buzz also suggests that Keeravaani’s upcoming Varanasi will feature memorable songs dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Rama.
Against that backdrop, Anirudh faces the challenge of creating a soundtrack that matches the scale and spiritual depth of the subject while retaining his signature contemporary style.
For the composer, this project is significantly different from films like Jailer, Coolie, or Devara. Interestingly, Anirudh had previously collaborated with Trivikram on Agnyaathavaasi, a film that failed at the box office. This new venture gives the duo an opportunity to rewrite that chapter with a much bigger canvas.
Although the project is still some time away from production, preparations are expected to gather pace soon. Once Trivikram completes Aadarsha Kutumbam, he is likely to shift his complete focus to the Jr NTR film. Meanwhile, NTR is expected to wrap up Dragon by the end of the year, potentially allowing the new project to go on floors early next year.
The production schedule and release timeline are yet to be officially revealed, but given the scale of the film, both shooting and post-production are expected to take considerable time.
