Kerala businessman Boby Chemmanur has issued a public apology to Malayalam actress Honey Rose over his controversial remarks, expressing regret for the distress they caused and hoping the gesture will help bring the legal dispute to an amicable end.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Chemmanur said he has always tried to treat people with kindness and respect. He explained that while he often shares humorous and light-hearted content on social media, he never intended to offend or insult anyone.
Acknowledging the impact of his remarks, Chemmanur admitted that his statements had caused significant pain to Honey Rose and her family. “I have come to realise that my statements about Ms Honey Rose have caused significant distress to her and her family. I deeply apologise for the harm I have caused. I take full responsibility for my words and their impact,” he wrote.
He also expressed hope that his apology would encourage the actress to withdraw the criminal case filed against him, adding that he wished to resolve the matter peacefully and move forward in a positive spirit.
Honey Rose has not yet responded publicly to the apology.
The controversy began after the actress accused Chemmanur of making sexually coloured and derogatory remarks about her during the inauguration of a jewellery showroom. She later alleged that similar comments were made through multiple media platforms.
Speaking about the issue earlier, Honey Rose asserted that no one, regardless of wealth or influence, has the right to disrespect women. Expressing faith in India’s legal system, she chose to pursue legal action against the businessman.
Chemmanur had initially denied any intention to insult the actress. However, following Honey Rose’s complaint, the investigation proceeded, and in January 2025, he was arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Police booked Chemmanur under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to sexual harassment, along with sections of the Information Technology Act related to the alleged publication of obscene content online.
