Kollywood star Dhanush is back with another intense and unconventional film titled Kara, a psychological action drama that recently hit theatres on April 30. Starring rising actress Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, the movie is now preparing for its digital premiere after completing its theatrical run.
Popular streaming platform Netflix has officially announced that Kara will begin streaming from May 28. The film will be available not only in Tamil but also in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, making it accessible to audiences across multiple languages.
Set in the backdrop of the 1990s, the story revolves around Kara Swamy, played by Dhanush, a village thief who leaves home after conflicts with his father Kodandam, portrayed by K. S. Ravikumar. Kara dreams of starting his own hotel business, but banks repeatedly deny him financial support.
Things take a darker turn when his father dies, and Kara begins to believe that the harsh policies and behaviour of banks are responsible not only for his father’s death but also for the suffering faced by local farmers in the village.
Driven by anger and revenge, Kara starts targeting bank branches through a series of robberies. The story then follows how DSP Bharathan, played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, attempts to stop him, while bank manager Muthu Selvan, portrayed by Jayaram, becomes deeply involved in the conflict.
Directed by Vignesh Raja, who earlier impressed audiences with the thriller Por Thozhil, the film arrived in theatres with decent expectations. However, despite its gripping premise and strong performances, Kara received mixed reviews and failed to achieve the expected box office numbers.
Still, many believe the movie could find a stronger audience on OTT platforms, especially among viewers who enjoy suspense thrillers and action dramas. Dhanush’s intense performance and Vignesh Raja’s stylish storytelling remain among the film’s biggest highlights.
For fans of crime thrillers packed with action, suspense, and emotional drama, Kara could turn out to be a solid OTT watch when it premieres on Netflix this May 28.
