Meta Employee Says She Feels “Free” After Massive Layoffs

Meta’s recent global layoffs have triggered widespread discussion across social media, with many former employees openly sharing their reactions and personal experiences after losing their jobs. On May 20, the company reportedly laid off more than 8,000 employees worldwide as part of its ongoing restructuring and AI-focused transformation strategy.

Among those affected was San Francisco-based product designer Asha Raval, who drew attention online after posting an emotional Instagram reel about her layoff experience. Instead of expressing anger or disappointment, Raval said she felt “happy and free,” describing the moment as if she could finally breathe again.

She revealed that despite consistently exceeding expectations in her performance reviews for the past four years, the corporate environment had gradually drained her emotionally. According to her, no amount of salary, stock options, recognition, or promotions could compensate for the feeling of losing personal fulfillment and creativity.

Raval’s LinkedIn profile shows that she joined Meta as a Product Designer in May 2022 and remained with the company until the recent layoffs. She also shared a screenshot of her termination notice online, confirming her departure from the tech giant.

Before entering the corporate tech industry, Raval had a strong interest in art and creative storytelling. Following her layoff, she said she now plans to reconnect with her creative passions, including art, fashion, and storytelling projects.

She is currently associated with an AI-focused fashion startup called ItsFynd, where she works as a founding creator. According to Raval, the new role aligns much more closely with her interests in both creativity and technology.

Meta’s latest restructuring goes far beyond layoffs alone. Reports suggest the company has reassigned nearly 7,000 employees toward AI-focused initiatives while simultaneously shutting down more than 6,000 job openings. The company is aggressively investing in artificial intelligence infrastructure, automation tools, and next-generation AI technologies as part of its long-term strategy.

The trend is not limited to Meta. Major technology companies including Amazon, Oracle, and LinkedIn are also increasingly restructuring operations around AI adoption and automation. As companies shift resources toward artificial intelligence, concerns are growing across the industry about the future of traditional white-collar and corporate roles.

The ongoing transformation signals how rapidly AI is reshaping the global technology workforce, forcing both companies and employees to rethink career paths, skill development, and the future of work itself.
