The success of Gatta Kusthi 2 at the Tamil box office has sparked plans for its release in Telugu. The sequel, starring Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, has reportedly opened to an impressive response, strengthening the franchise after the success of the first film in Tamil.
Interestingly, the original Gatta Kusthi, released in 2022, was dubbed into Telugu but failed to make an impact despite performing well in Tamil. However, the strong box-office run of the sequel has encouraged the makers to bring the film to Telugu audiences as a dubbed release.
The story follows Veera, a man with rigid expectations about his ideal bride, who unexpectedly marries a woman completely different from what he had imagined. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays a talented wrestler, and the sequel focuses on Veera standing by his promise to support her wrestling career while she pursues her dreams. Although some critics pointed out a few shortcomings, the film has received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences.
Trade reports suggest that while the first Gatta Kusthi earned around ₹16 crore during its entire theatrical run in Tamil, the sequel has already collected nearly ₹19 crore within just three days of release. The impressive numbers indicate that the second installment has struck a chord with moviegoers and is on track to become an even bigger commercial success than its predecessor.
Directed by Chella Ayyavu, the Gatta Kusthi franchise is jointly produced by Ishari K. Ganesh, Vishnu Vishal and Ishan Saksena under the banners Vels Film International, Vishnu Vishal Studioz and IVY Entertainment. With the sequel performing strongly in Tamil, all eyes are now on its upcoming Telugu release and how it will be received by audiences.
