India’s humanitarian mission to earthquake-hit Venezuela has gathered momentum, with the Indian Army’s field hospital now fully operational under Operation Amistad. The medical facility is providing free, round-the-clock healthcare to people affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck the South American nation.

According to the Indian Embassy in Venezuela, a team of experienced Indian Army doctors has established the field hospital at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas. The facility is open 24 hours a day and offers all medical services free of cost to earthquake victims.

Venezuela was recently hit by powerful 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes, among the strongest the country has witnessed in more than a century. The twin quakes have claimed over 1,450 lives, injured thousands, and left many others missing, triggering a massive humanitarian crisis.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Operation Amistad is progressing successfully, with the Indian Army extending critical medical assistance to those affected. He also noted that the Vice Health Minister of Venezuela and the Head of the Government of the Capital District visited the Indian field hospital, appreciating India’s relief efforts.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had earlier confirmed that India’s emergency relief supplies, medical equipment, and the Army’s field hospital unit had reached Venezuela to strengthen ongoing rescue and rehabilitation operations.

As part of Operation Amistad, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft transported nearly 66 tonnes of humanitarian aid from New Delhi to Caracas. The relief package included over 35 tonnes of medicines, emergency supplies, medical equipment, the Army field hospital, and two BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri) Cubes—advanced mobile hospital units designed to deliver emergency healthcare during disasters.

The aircraft completed the challenging 23-hour journey, covering more than 14,000 kilometres to deliver the assistance. Reaffirming India’s commitment to global humanitarian support, the Ministry of External Affairs said the country stands firmly with the people and government of Venezuela during this difficult time, underscoring India’s role as a trusted partner in disaster relief and emergency response.
