After making a successful entry into Telugu cinema, Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor is now reportedly setting her sights on the Tamil film industry. The actress, who has already scored two major successes in Tollywood, is said to be preparing for her Kollywood debut, sparking considerable excitement among fans.
Janhvi made her Telugu debut opposite NTR in Devara, which emerged as a commercial success. She followed it up with Peddi alongside Ram Charan, further strengthening her presence in the South. Riding on this momentum, reports now suggest that she is looking to expand her footprint into Tamil cinema.
According to reports circulating in Kollywood circles, Janhvi is in talks to headline Kurathi, a web series directed by Sargunam and backed by filmmaker Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Productions. If the reports turn out to be true, the project will mark her Tamil debut. However, neither the makers nor Janhvi have officially confirmed the development.
While the news has generated excitement, it has also triggered debate among fans. Many believe Janhvi deserves a grand big-screen launch in Tamil cinema rather than making her debut through a web series.
The comparison with her mother, legendary actress Sridevi, has naturally resurfaced. Sridevi began her acting journey as a child artist in the 1967 Tamil film Kandan Karunai before making her debut as a lead actress at the age of 13 in K. Balachander’s acclaimed film Moondru Mudichu (1976). Working with one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers gave Sridevi a remarkable start to what would become an iconic career.
Sridevi went on to become one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars before conquering Telugu and Hindi films, establishing herself as one of India’s greatest actresses. Given her immense legacy and deep connection with Tamil audiences, many fans feel Janhvi’s entry into Kollywood should be equally memorable.
For now, the Tamil debut remains a rumour awaiting official confirmation. But if Janhvi is indeed planning to step into Kollywood, her admirers hope it will be through a blockbuster feature film that pays tribute to the remarkable legacy left behind by her mother rather than through a digital series.
