Oracle has reportedly revoked placement offers extended to students from several IITs and NITs, creating uncertainty and disappointment among candidates who had already planned their careers around these opportunities.
The issue came to light after an NIT student, Aditya Kumar Barawal, shared his experience on LinkedIn. He revealed that his pre-placement offer from Oracle had been withdrawn due to internal restructuring and changes in the company’s hiring capacity and employee headcount.
Despite the setback, Barawal maintained a positive outlook in his post, stating that he remains focused on learning and moving forward. He also shared a screenshot of an official communication from his institute, which confirmed that Oracle had withdrawn the offers “at no fault of the candidates.”
The letter reportedly noted that the decision came at a particularly difficult time, as the institutional placement cycle was nearing completion. In Barawal’s institute alone, three students were affected by the withdrawal.
The issue is reportedly not limited to NITs. According to discussions on Reddit, nearly 50 students across various IITs may have been impacted by Oracle’s decision.
Posts from the online community claimed that placement offers were revoked for students from institutions including Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
The situation has become more stressful because many IITs reportedly follow a “one student, one offer” placement policy. Under this system, students who accept an offer from one company are generally not allowed to continue participating in placement drives for other companies.
As a result, students who had secured Oracle offers and exited the placement process are now left searching for alternatives at a stage when most major recruiters have already completed hiring.
The incident has triggered concern across student communities, with many pointing out the emotional and professional pressure faced by graduates who spent months preparing for placements, only to face sudden uncertainty after completing their degrees.
