OTT Deals Impact Pan-India Plans of Chaitanya, Tej & Nikhil

Naga Chaitanya, Sai Dharam Tej, and Nikhil Siddhartha are all striving to expand their reach with ambitious pan-Indian projects. However, the evolving OTT landscape is reportedly emerging as a major challenge for the makers of these films.

Naga Chaitanya is currently working on Vrushakarma, directed by Karthik Dandu of Virupaksha fame. Produced by BVSN Prasad, the film is being positioned as the biggest-budget project in Chaitanya’s career. The theatrical rights have already been acquired by Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainments. While discussions for the OTT deal are in the final stages, industry buzz suggests that the digital offer has come in lower than expected, affecting the film’s overall revenue projections.

A similar situation is being observed with Sai Dharam Tej’s Sambarala Yeti Gattu. Following the success of Virupaksha, the actor was reportedly expecting strong non-theatrical business for what is said to be his most expensive project to date. However, OTT platforms are reportedly adopting a cautious approach in their valuation, and the makers are yet to finalize a satisfactory deal.

Nikhil Siddhartha’s Swayambhu is also facing hurdles on the business front. The film’s release plans have been delayed amid ongoing OTT negotiations. Trade circles suggest that the underwhelming performance of Nikhil’s recent films, along with limited pre-release buzz around Swayambhu, has impacted its non-theatrical prospects.
