Congress leader Revanth Reddy is widely credited with playing a key role in the party’s return to power in Telangana. During the 2023 Assembly elections, his aggressive campaigning, sharp criticism of K. Chandrashekar Rao, and impactful public speeches helped the Congress build a strong narrative against the then-ruling BRS government.
Even after assuming office as Chief Minister, Revanth has continued to maintain the same combative political style. However, his latest remarks targeting KCR have sparked debate over whether a more restrained approach is now expected from someone holding the state’s highest executive office.
Addressing a public gathering, Revanth compared KCR’s current political situation to the character Pasupathi from the Telugu blockbuster Arundhati. He remarked that just as Pasupathi was confined and rendered powerless in the film, his government has politically restricted KCR to his farmhouse. Revanth made the comparison without softening his remarks, reflecting the same aggressive tone that marked his election campaign.
The comments have drawn comparisons with an earlier political controversy in Andhra Pradesh, when Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy likened N. Chandrababu Naidu to the character Chandramukhi, a remark that attracted criticism from political observers.
Revanth Reddy’s assertive style has undoubtedly been one of the Congress party’s biggest strengths in Telangana. However, with the responsibilities of governance now resting on his shoulders, many believe there is a growing expectation for him to balance political aggression with the restraint and decorum associated with the office of Chief Minister.
