Tamil Nadu announces 14-day complete lockdown from May 10 to 24


In order to curb the increasing Covid-19 infections during the second wave, the Government of Tamil Nadu announced a complete lockdown in the state from May 10 to May 24. The shutdown comes just a day after MK Stalin took oath as the CM of Tamil Nadu.

Announcing the lockdown, the state has said the decision to go for a complete lockdown was taken due to inevitable conditions in the state owing to the rise in Coronavirus cases. The lockdown will come into effect at 4 am on May 10 and will be in force till 4 am on May 24.

The government has given some much needed time for the people to prepare for the lockdown by allowing all shops and establishments to stay open from 6 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

During the complete lockdown, vegetable, meat and fish shops and provisional stores may operate only till noon. All other shops will remain closed. On the other hand, state-owned liquor shops will be locked during the complete lockdown period in the state. Takeaway services are permitted for restaurants, and essential services are exempted from lockdown orders.
