TDP Cadre Uneasy Over Repeated Praise for Pawan Kalyan at Mahanadu

The Telugu Desam Party is conducting its annual conclave, Mahanadu, in a hybrid format this year. In view of the ongoing fuel crisis, the party leadership decided to stream the event live from the central party office to TDP offices across Andhra Pradesh, reducing the need for cadres to travel long distances.

Traditionally, Mahanadu serves as a platform for discussing the party’s direction, governance strategies, and future plans, especially as the government approaches the halfway mark of its current term. However, this year’s event has also triggered internal discussions among sections of the TDP cadre regarding the repeated references to Janasena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan during the proceedings.

TDP Working President Nara Lokesh, during his speech, recalled how Pawan Kalyan was among the first leaders to contact him following Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest and how he assured support during that difficult phase. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also mentioned Pawan Kalyan multiple times in his address, while several other party leaders echoed similar sentiments during their speeches.

This repeated emphasis has reportedly not gone down well with a section of TDP supporters, who feel it creates an impression that the party is overly dependent on Janasena and Pawan Kalyan’s support. Some cadres believe that while mutual respect within the alliance is understandable, excessive praise could politically weaken TDP’s image as the senior alliance partner and potentially strengthen Janasena’s bargaining power during future seat-sharing discussions.

Interestingly, a similar concern exists within Janasena as well. Some Janasena supporters are reportedly unhappy that Pawan Kalyan frequently mentions Chandrababu Naidu in his party meetings, feeling that it may dilute Janasena’s independent political identity.

At the same time, political observers believe that Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh are likely attempting to maintain alliance harmony by publicly acknowledging each other’s support and cooperation rather than projecting political dependency.

The responsibility now lies with the alliance leadership to clearly communicate this balance to their respective cadres and reassure them that the partnership is built on mutual respect and strategic cooperation, not political weakness or dependence.
