For months, political and film circles in Tamil Nadu have been buzzing with speculation that actress Trisha Krishnan could find a significant place in Chief Minister Vijay’s political setup.
Given her perceived proximity to Vijay, many even believed she might be fielded from Tiruchirappalli East, one of the two constituencies vacated by him. It is known that Vijay contested from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East and won in both seats. Since a candidate cannot hold two constituencies, one must be vacated, triggering a by-election within six months. Vijay has reportedly chosen to retain Perambur and left Tiruchirappalli East vacant.
However, recent developments suggest that the seat is unlikely to go to Trisha. Instead, reports now indicate that actor and choreographer Lawrence may be considered for the constituency.
Adding further intrigue is Vijay’s recent meeting with actor Parthiban. During the election campaign, Parthiban had drawn criticism for making controversial remarks about Trisha, which later led to a public apology from him. Against this backdrop, Vijay’s cordial interaction with Parthiban has drawn attention across political circles.
Many observers interpret this as a signal that the chief minister is not attaching the kind of political or personal significance to Trisha that was earlier being assumed. Despite widespread speculation, she has not been offered any official post or even party membership so far.
Within political circles, some also view the entire narrative as a carefully built PR projection. Ever since TVK’s electoral victory, Trisha’s visit to Vijay’s residence, her presence at the swearing-in ceremony, and ongoing speculation about her influence have been widely highlighted. Critics believe this sustained attention may have created internal discomfort within the party leadership.
While speculation around Trisha’s political future continues to generate headlines, the ground reality now appears far more restrained than what many initially assumed.
