After the Election Commission of India approved Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s new political outfit, Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) reportedly raised formal objections against the use of the abbreviation “TRS.”
According to political circles, BRS argued that the TRS name carries a deep association with the Telangana movement and public sentiment that played a crucial role in the state’s formation. The party is said to have requested the Election Commission not to allot the name to another political organization.
Sources indicate that the Election Commission received several objections regarding the use of the TRS name before granting approval to Kavitha’s party. However, the commission eventually cleared the registration process.
Political observers believe Kavitha’s choice of the TRS abbreviation is strategic. Since the original Telangana Rashtra Samithi was rebranded as Bharat Rashtra Samithi in 2022, some analysts feel the old TRS identity still resonates strongly with sections of Telangana voters. By adopting the Telangana Rakshana Sena name, Kavitha may be attempting to reconnect with that sentiment while creating a distinct political identity of her own.
At the same time, critics of BRS argue that Telangana sentiment is not exclusive to any one political party and cannot be claimed as a political monopoly. They point out that the broader Telangana movement involved multiple organizations, leaders, and public groups over several decades.
The controversy has also fueled speculation about the growing political distance between Kavitha and sections of the BRS leadership. With BRS formally objecting to the name chosen by Kavitha’s party, the development has naturally triggered discussions about internal equations within the Kalvakuntla family, particularly between K.T. Rama Rao and Kavitha.
While no direct public confrontation has taken place so far, political observers are keenly watching how Kavitha responds to the objections and whether the issue escalates into a larger political battle in the coming months.
For now, the approval of Telangana Rakshana Sena has added a new dimension to Telangana politics and could potentially influence the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
