US President Donald Trump has heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing the two leaders as “classics” and commending their political strength, leadership qualities, and global influence.
Speaking on The Axios Show, Trump said both Modi and Xi stand out on the world stage because of their authority and impact. Referring to Prime Minister Modi, Trump said, “I think Modi is very good,” adding that the Indian leader has managed to keep his country away from wars while leading the world’s most populous nation.
Trump also praised Modi’s longevity in office, noting that he has remained in power for more than 12 years despite India’s history of unstable coalition politics. Calling him “a very tough guy,” Trump said Modi projects calmness and has brought stability to the country’s political landscape.
“I know him very well. He is very solid,” Trump remarked, while also highlighting the growing economic relationship between India and the United States. According to Trump, the two nations are now conducting “fair business” under his leadership.
Drawing a comparison between Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said both leaders possess remarkable influence and leadership. “Modi’s great. President Xi is great. Classics, you know?” he said, adding that they are personalities worthy of headlining a movie.
Trump’s remarks once again underline the significance he attaches to the leadership and global stature of both Modi and Xi, whom he described as among the world leaders he admires the most.
