US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that President Donald Trump is expected to visit India in the early months of next year, underscoring the growing strength of India-US relations and the close rapport between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to IANS at the White House, Rubio revealed that preparations for the visit are already underway and that he plans to travel to India later this year to help finalize the arrangements.

“We’re hoping. That’s what we’re working towards sometime early next year to have the President come,” Rubio said, expressing confidence that the visit would materialize as planned.

Rubio described the India-US partnership as being in a “very positive” phase, pointing to the recent meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. He said the personal chemistry between the two leaders has played a key role in strengthening bilateral ties.

Highlighting ongoing economic cooperation, Rubio said both countries are close to concluding a long-awaited trade agreement. “I think it’s going fantastic. It’s very strong. We had a great meeting with the Prime Minister at the G7. We’re hoping to finalise a trade deal. We’re on the last inches of getting it done,” he said.

If the visit goes ahead, it will mark Trump’s first trip to India since February 2020 and his first visit after returning to the White House for a second term.

Rubio also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, calling himself a “fan” of the Indian leader. He credited Modi with enhancing India’s stature on the global stage, saying, “Modi has made India a global power.”

Trump’s proposed visit is expected to further deepen strategic, economic, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, with the anticipated trade agreement likely to be a key focus of the discussions.
