Critically acclaimed Telugu director Vivek Athreya is reportedly planning a major casting coup for his upcoming project, which has already generated strong buzz in industry circles. The director is said to have pitched a powerful mass entertainer script to veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, even before an official announcement.
According to reports, Athreya is developing a high-octane commercial entertainer with Balakrishna in mind, and the script may feature either dual roles for the actor or a significant second character played by another prominent star. The project is still in its early stages, but insiders suggest it has the potential to showcase Balakrishna in a refreshed mass avatar.
Adding to the excitement, fresh buzz suggests that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal may also be considered for a key author-backed role in the film. If finalized, this combination would mark a major collaboration between two of South Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors.
Sources say Vivek Athreya originally planned Balakrishna in dual roles but is also exploring the idea of bringing in a strong supporting character played by a top-tier actor like Mohanlal to elevate the narrative impact.
Mohanlal, who has previously appeared in several Telugu films and delivered a memorable performance in Janatha Garage, enjoys strong popularity among Telugu audiences. His inclusion, if it happens, is expected to significantly boost the film’s anticipation.
However, the project will only take shape after both Balakrishna and Athreya complete their current commitments. Balakrishna is presently working on an action drama directed by Gopichand Malineni and will later collaborate with Koratala Siva. Meanwhile, Vivek Athreya is expected to complete another film, possibly with Ravi Teja, before focusing fully on this ambitious venture.
Interestingly, Balakrishna and Mohanlal were seen together briefly in a song sequence decades ago in Gandheevam. If this project materializes, it would mark the first full-length collaboration between these two cinematic legends, creating one of the most exciting combinations in recent times.
