However, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes widespread fears about AI replacing jobs may be overstated.
Speaking during an interview on Complex’s Idea Generation, Zuckerberg said that large-scale job losses are not an inevitable outcome of AI adoption. Instead, he argued that the long-term impact depends on how companies choose to use the technology.
According to Zuckerberg, businesses that focus on using AI to enhance employee productivity rather than replace knowledge workers could ultimately create more employment opportunities. He suggested that if AI helps individuals become more productive at a faster pace than companies can automate entire roles, the overall number of jobs could increase rather than decline.
He also advocated for a balanced approach, where AI is used both to improve business efficiency and to empower individuals with advanced tools that enhance their capabilities instead of replacing them.
Zuckerberg’s comments come at a time when Meta itself has been restructuring its workforce. The company recently reduced around 10 percent of its global workforce while simultaneously reallocating thousands of employees to AI-focused initiatives as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector.
Across the technology industry, several major companies have adopted similar strategies—streamlining traditional roles while significantly increasing investments in AI research, infrastructure, and product development.

While concerns about AI-driven job displacement remain widespread, Zuckerberg maintains that the technology has the potential to create new opportunities if companies prioritise augmenting human capabilities alongside automation, rather than viewing AI solely as a replacement for workers.
