Bollywood actor Govinda, who is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Roopa, has revealed that he had predicted the rise of South Indian cinema nearly 15 years ago.

Speaking during a promotional event for the film, Govinda reflected on the changing landscape of Indian cinema and said he had long believed that South Indian films would dominate the industry.

“I had told one of my friends that within the next 10 years, South Indian cinema would become a major force. That’s exactly what happened. Films like Wanted, Rowdy Rathore, and the Drishyam franchise proved how powerful South Indian stories are. These films helped create larger-than-life heroes and changed the industry,” he said.

Govinda also spoke about his philosophy toward filmmaking, emphasizing that he never worries about market trends or commercial pressures.

“I don’t think about whether the market will accept me or whether people will come to theatres. I simply focus on doing my work with complete honesty. If people look at my performance and wonder how it is possible, then I feel I have succeeded as Govinda,” he said.

Reflecting on the early days of his career, the actor admitted that financial security was his biggest priority when selecting films.

“I came from a poor family. At that time, I looked only at the money because I wanted to take care of my parents and my family. My mother’s advice was simple—if you keep worrying about everything else, what will God do?” he recalled.

Govinda also acknowledged that he was never deeply involved in technical aspects of filmmaking during the early years of his career. Instead, he focused on hard work and overcoming the challenges that came with his humble background.

With Roopa, Govinda is hoping to reconnect with audiences as he begins a new chapter in his acting career while reflecting on the journey that has shaped him over the years.
