Apple is reportedly preparing a major shift in its iPhone launch strategy with the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup. According to recent reports, the company may split the launch across two phases, with the premium models arriving first and the standard variants following several months later.
The high-end iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to debut in September 2026, in line with Apple’s traditional launch schedule. Reports also suggest that Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone could make its debut alongside the Pro models, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18, the budget-friendly iPhone 18e, and the ultra-slim iPhone Air 2 are reportedly being pushed to Q1 2027. While Apple has not officially confirmed the revised launch timeline, the move is said to be part of a new product release strategy.
The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to retain a design language similar to their predecessors. However, the iPhone 18e could receive a refreshed front design with a Dynamic Island-style cutout, bringing it closer to Apple’s premium models. Both devices are also expected to feature an aluminum frame, Ceramic Shield protection, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
The iPhone 18 is rumored to sport a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The more affordable iPhone 18e, meanwhile, could feature a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness.
On the photography front, the iPhone 18 is expected to feature a dual-camera system consisting of a 40MP primary sensor and a 48MP ultra-wide camera, accompanied by an 18MP TrueDepth front camera.
The iPhone 18e is tipped to include a single 48MP rear camera along with a 12MP selfie camera, continuing Apple’s strategy of differentiating its entry-level model from the flagship lineup.
Both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A20 chipset, paired with 9GB of RAM to support enhanced AI capabilities and the latest Apple Intelligence features.
Battery life is also expected to improve across both models, although exact battery capacities have not yet been revealed.
As with all early leaks, these specifications and launch timelines remain unofficial until Apple makes an official announcement.
