Smartphones today store a vast amount of personal information, from photos, messages, emails, and documents to banking apps, browsing history, and social media accounts. While they are highly personal devices, there are times when you may need to hand your phone to someone to make a call, check something online, or use a specific app. In such situations, protecting your private data becomes important, and Android’s Guest Mode offers a simple solution.
Available on most Android smartphones, except Samsung Galaxy devices, Guest Mode creates a temporary user profile that is completely separate from your primary account. Once enabled, the guest user can access only basic phone functions without being able to view your photos, messages, installed apps, contacts, accounts, or other personal information. It is an easy way to let someone use your phone without worrying about your private data being exposed.
Setting up Guest Mode is straightforward. Open the Settings app, go to System, and select Users. Enable the Allow user switching option, then tap Add Guest to create a temporary guest profile. After switching to the Guest profile, the person using your phone can make calls, browse the internet, and use basic applications, while your personal files and accounts remain hidden.
Once the guest has finished using the device, you can switch back to your primary profile directly from the Quick Settings panel. You also have the option to remove the guest session, which automatically erases any activity carried out during that session, including downloaded files, app usage, and other temporary data.
Guest Mode is one of Android’s most useful privacy features for people who occasionally lend their phones to friends, family members, or colleagues. It offers a convenient way to share your device while ensuring that your personal information remains safe and secure.
