BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has candidly admitted that the party made several mistakes during its decade-long rule in Telangana, saying the leadership has reflected on its decisions following the party’s defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Responding to a question about whether he regrets any decisions taken during the BRS government’s tenure, KTR said it is natural for any government to make mistakes.
“Yes, we made many mistakes during our time in power. After all, we are humans too and are bound to make mistakes,” he said.
KTR specifically referred to the TSPSC question paper leak controversy, which sparked widespread protests among students and job aspirants. Looking back, he acknowledged that the government should have acted more decisively.
He said the entire TSPSC board should have been dismissed immediately after the question paper leak came to light. According to him, such a move could have helped contain public anger and prevented the issue from escalating into a major controversy.
“We should have removed the entire board immediately. That could have reduced the student agitation to a large extent. Instead, we had to carry the negative perception created by the incident,” KTR remarked.
The BRS, which governed Telangana for nearly ten years under K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), lost power in the 2023 Assembly elections. Since then, KTR has emerged as the party’s most visible leader, taking charge of rebuilding the organisation and strengthening its opposition role in the state.
His remarks are being viewed as a rare public acknowledgment of the shortcomings of the previous BRS government and an indication that the party is reassessing its past decisions as it prepares for future political battles.
