The recently unveiled poster of God of War, starring Jr NTR and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, has triggered debate on social media, with producer Naga Vamsi unexpectedly finding himself at the centre of the controversy.
The discussion began after promotional posts for the film reportedly described the central deity in a manner that some social media users, particularly from Tamil Nadu, found objectionable. Several users expressed concern over references suggesting the deity was “born in the North” before becoming widely revered in the South.
Some devotees identify the film’s inspiration with Lord Murugan (also known as Subrahmanya or Kumara Swamy), who holds deep cultural and religious significance in Tamil tradition. As a result, the wording used in the promotional material drew criticism from sections of social media, leading to calls for clarification.
Amid the online backlash, Naga Vamsi became a target of trolling, even though many fans questioned why the producer was being held responsible for a creative decision.
Industry observers point out that creative aspects such as promotional concepts and messaging are generally handled by the film’s director and creative team, with key approvals coming from the makers. While Naga Vamsi is associated with the project as a producer, there has been no indication that he was personally responsible for the wording used in the promotional campaign.
As the discussion continues online, neither the film’s team nor the makers have issued an official statement addressing the controversy.
