Oracle is reportedly facing criticism after revoking campus placement and pre-placement job offers made to students from several prestigious Indian engineering institutes, including various IITs and NITs. The development comes amid the company’s ongoing global restructuring efforts following massive layoffs announced earlier this year.
According to reports and multiple LinkedIn posts shared by affected students, many freshers who had secured jobs through zero-day campus placements are now left struggling to find alternative opportunities. Since zero-day placements often prevent students from applying to other companies under the “One Student, One Job” policy followed by many institutes, several graduates now find themselves without job options at the final stage of their academic journey.
Students from institutes like Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur have openly expressed their disappointment on LinkedIn. A student named Smit Jogani described the experience as “hitting rock bottom right at the finish line,” while maintaining hope and optimism about rebuilding his career path.
Another IIT Kanpur student, Gautam Raj, revealed that his Day 1 placement offer from Oracle for a Member Technical Staff role was withdrawn just a week before graduation. In his emotional LinkedIn post, he said the offer once felt like a “dream come true,” but losing it at the final moment left him starting from zero after giving up other placement opportunities.
Kaushal Jain, another student from IIT Kanpur, also reportedly began searching for new opportunities on LinkedIn after his Oracle offer was revoked. Reports suggest that more than 50 students across IITs may have been affected, while similar cases have surfaced from NIT campuses as well, including at National Institute of Technology Warangal.
The controversy follows Oracle’s large-scale layoffs announced in April, when the company reportedly cut over 30,000 jobs globally. Reports indicated that nearly 12,000 employees from India were impacted, with a major portion of the layoffs affecting the healthcare division. Employees were reportedly informed through early morning emails without prior notice, leaving many uncertain about their future.
