The previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led administration in Andhra Pradesh was largely driven by direct benefit transfer schemes, which had a significant impact on the state’s financial position. In this context, the current government under veteran leader N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken on the responsibility of strengthening the state’s finances while continuing welfare-oriented governance.
As the NDA government completes two years in office, its tenure is being marked by a balance between welfare initiatives and social infrastructure development.
One of the key flagship schemes is the NTR Bharosa Pension Programme, under which over ₹65,000 crore has been disbursed to senior citizens so far. In addition, 4.26 crore LPG cylinders have been distributed to households as part of earlier commitments.
The government has also revived the Anna Canteen programme, which now provides meals to lakhs of people daily. On the employment front, the Mega DSC initiative has been implemented, resulting in the recruitment of over 15,000 teachers, while nearly 5,700 constables have also been appointed.
Another major welfare step is the free RTC bus travel scheme for women, which has received strong public response and widespread appreciation.
On the development front, the entry and expansion of global companies such as IBM, Google, Infosys, and others is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for the youth, boosting the state’s economic outlook.
Overall, the current administration is being seen by supporters as one of the more active phases of governance in recent years. However, challenges remain, including maintaining cohesion within the alliance over the next three years and preparing for the 2029 Assembly elections.
Leaders Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have expressed confidence in delivering a long-term governance model, aiming for sustained development over the coming years.
