KCR, KTR Silent On Kavitha

The political equations within the BRS appear to have changed dramatically over the last two years, particularly in the case of MLC Kavitha.

When Kavitha was arrested in the Delhi excise policy case in 2024, she received strong backing from both her father, KCR, and her brother, KTR. KTR personally travelled to Delhi, held meetings with senior leaders and legal experts, and actively supported efforts to secure her bail.

However, the current situation paints a very different picture.

Last week, during a protest in Boduppal, Kavitha was detained by the police. Videos from the incident showed police personnel escorting her into a vehicle, prompting criticism from some quarters over the manner in which she was handled. The visuals sparked political debate, with several leaders and supporters expressing concern over the treatment meted out to her.

What has drawn attention, however, is the silence from KCR and KTR. Despite the incident becoming a major talking point in Telangana politics, neither the BRS president nor the party’s working president has publicly commented on Kavitha’s detention or criticised the police action.

The silence has fuelled speculation about the growing political distance within the family. In recent months, Kavitha has made remarks that were perceived as critical of the party leadership, including KCR and KTR, leading to widespread discussions about internal differences.

While neither side has officially spoken about the nature of their relationship, the lack of a public response from the BRS leadership during Kavitha’s latest political setback has become a subject of debate. For now, it appears that Kavitha is charting her political course independently as the party leadership remains focused on its own political agenda.
